Our Music Education: Right from the Start initiative has kicked off the year on a high note with the launch of its standalone website: https://www.musiceducation.com.au/.
Demonstrating our commitment to transparency and collaboration, this platform serves as a central hub to amplify our mission, share our research and resources, highlight news and events, and introduce our cross-industry advisory partners who share a collective belief in the power of music to change lives.
2024 is poised with excitement and promise for the initiative in progressing quality primary music education, building on momentum generated by recent commitments to enhance music education in NSW, and promising signs of renewed interest in Victoria.
We’re also keenly watching the evolution of South Australia’s ten-year music education strategy, and the Queensland Government’s pledge to allocate one hour per week for music learning for every primary school student in that state.
Following fruitful discussions at Federal Parliament in November, we eagerly await forthcoming opportunities – including the much-anticipated report of the Senate Inquiry on Revive, the new national cultural policy.
Next on the agenda? As part of our pipeline of planned research, Music Education: Right from the Start has partnered with the South Australian Department for Education and the Day Family Foundation to conduct an extensive survey of South Australian Primary School Teachers, with the results soon to be released.
Designed and administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), this comprehensive study provides an up-to-date picture of the key characteristics of primary teachers in the delivery of music learning in that state. It is our hope this will form the foundation of a picture that can be rolled out nation-wide, with NSW poised to be the next focus area.
We’re committed to strengthening our partnerships and collaboration in the months ahead. Join us on our mission to enhance quality music education in primary schools nationwide!
Launched in 2022, Music Education: Right from the Start is a collaborative national initiative, led by Alberts | The Tony Foundation, aiming to improve access to a quality, sequential and ongoing music education for all Australian primary school children.
We’re aiming to drive positive change for Australia’s young learners through research and advocacy to inform policy and systems, with an initial focus on the teaching workforce, school leadership, and the data that matters.
