The countdown is on to 2024 SXSW Sydney, and Alberts is thrilled to announce its upcoming debut! For the first time, Alberts will present across two panel sessions, each featuring pioneering founders supported by Alberts Impact Ventures. These sessions will delve into groundbreaking innovations driving real-world sustainability solutions and the future of impact investing.

Session 1: ‘Hardware vs. Software – Who is Winning the Fight Against Climate Change?’

Energy, Climate and Sustainability Track, Tuesday 15 October, 1:45pm, Sydney International Convention Centre, room E3.9

Moderated by Glenn Bartlett, Head of Impact Ventures, we talk to three pioneering founders behind real world innovations that are helping solve the global climate crisis. We were promised flying cars. What we got was Twitter. Software technology might make a great investment, but it’s not going to solve climate change. The panel will feature:

Venture capitalists love to invest in predictable subscription revenues, and sticky products. Public investors love to invest in the magnificent seven, largely software and technology companies.

This is all very well – and may well lead to impressive returns – but it isn’t going to solve climate change.

We explore the world beyond code and the hard things about hardware. Proving that action, and putting necessary capital where it can have maximum impact, is the key to combating climate change.

Session 2: ‘Mobilising Capital Towards Positive Impact: A Call to Arms for Aussie Investors and Funds’

Startups track – Tuesday 15 October, 4:45pm, Sydney International Convention Centre, room E3.9

In 2023, Australian startups attracted $3.5 billion in investments. Yet, as the world grapples with urgent social and environmental challenges, there’s a growing need for Aussie VCs, investors and funds to shift their capital – and mindsets – towards impact-focused startups solving some of the world’s most pressing problems, without sacrificing returns. Joining the conversation:

  • Ingrid Albert, Executive Director of Alberts and Head of The Tony Foundation
  • Dr. Julia Reisser, Co-founder of Uluu
  • Moderated by David Swan, Technology Editor at The Age and Sydney Morning Herald

We hope you can join us for these vital conversations. Find the full 2024 SXSW Sydney schedule here.
