The Music Education: Right from the Start project team spent an exciting two days in Canberra last week, seeking support for quality music education in primary schools across Australia. There was an encouraging response from those backbenchers and advisers the team met in an overwhelmingly busy end-of-year sitting week.
Head of the Music Education initiative, Emily Albert, was joined by Dr Anita Collins of Bigger Better Brains, and Eric Sidoti, Project Lead, who are now confirming meetings for early 2024 with those who accepted our invitation to meet at a later date; among them, members of parliamentary education committees and Parliamentary Friends of Australian Music.
“Appreciating the challenges facing ministers and parliamentary representatives, not least of which are in education, we were really heartened by the number of those we approached who expressed support and a willingness to talk further in the New Year,” Emily said. “It feels like things are moving. Looking across the nation, we have momentum in several states that we just didn’t have 12 months ago.”
Music Education: Right from the Start is a collaborative, national initiative led by Alberts | The Tony Foundation and driven by our collective belief in the power of music to change lives. Find out more here.
